There Are More Churches in Akwa Ibom Than Lagos Akwa Ibom State created on September 23, 1987 with an estimated population of 7,200,000 people has more churches than Lagos State with an estimated population of 16,536,018 people. There are about four churches on every street in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom. The Governor, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, an ordained Pentecostal minister before joining politics is happy with the proliferation of churches, because the millions of churchgoers voted for him to win the gubernatorial election in 2023 and he is depending on them for his reelection for a second term in 2027.
